I did not want to trust the timing to a spring rate, or limitations. So, I choose to use the MSD timing computer.

http://www.msdignition.com/tc_3.htm

Start retard--------total timing retard via chips for that time when premium fuel may not be available. Nice options.

I would use the black bushing and the light/silver springs, then set your total

http://www.msdignition.com/pdf/8360_frm%2023793.pdf

But all my stuff with MSD dist I just lock it out

Also MSD is just starting to powder coat the inside of there dist so they want rust,it might take a while to hit the stores

The only prob I see with locking it out in a boat is detinating it getting it on plane or nailing it below 3000. Also with you at 10.o its a higher chance of det, but I asume you have alumiun heads? you have that chousion

locking it out sure makes it crisp. kinda like krispie ,Rice crispi pops, Snap crackle &pop. Just stay away from the pop

Run it locked..you will be fine. I have run every boat motor I've had locked with no problems and have many friends who have done the same..

I had a 10.5:1 632" motor with Dart 360's locked, it liked 32 degrees...A friend of mine with a nasty 598" motor had to put a curve back into his last season...why? well when he went to a tunnel ram with (2) dominators he couldn't get the idle down and would be too lean at idle as he droppied it in gear and it wanted to die...well, he put a curve in the motor and it solved the problem...that is the only motor I personally know of that benefitted from a curve...but it was to solve an idle problem from having huge carbs...
