I hate to say it, but I think $5 per gallon gasoline is right around the corner. Our current gas prices are near what they were when oil was $60 per barrel.

Boating in the U.S. was reliant on low fuel prices. A small single engine boat might use 15 gallons per hour. At $1 per gallon, that $15 per hour. At $5 per gallon, though, that's $75 per hour. For five hours of operation, the cost of fuel would jump from $75 to $375. That's more than a lot of people can afford.

Keep in mind that the dollar has slipped in Euro standards by over 1/2. A percentage of the increases you are experienceing at the pump is from the devaluation of the dollar on world markets. The rest is from the price per barrel.

The jump at the pump is what is most obvious on a day to day basis. Your out of pocket costs for energy are increasing on every item you buy. The costs of packaging films have doubled and adhesives used for packaging etc is on it's was to doubling. Watch what happens to the price of a gallon of paint over the next 90 days.

It doesn't require the predictions of Nostradamus to see that $4.00 / gallon is for real in the very near future. $5.00? Eventually yes.

I paid $3.49 for diesel tonight.
