Default STS122 Atlantis launch Dec. 6th Can be seen on east coast USA!

Next Thursday at 4:30pm, the shuttle Atlantis will be lifting off. With it's proximity to sunset & it's trajectory, it will be visible along most of the east coast of the USA! By the time of MECO (main engine cut off), it will be visible while passing by New York City. The boosters will have dropped but the main three engines will still be burning (check out http://nasaspaceflight.com & click "forums" then "Atlantis sts122"). You can see it with the nakid eye but binoculars help. You will be able to see (depending on location) the boosters seperate & people up here will be able to see the main tank come off.
It will be coming up from the southeast. Look up at about 18-20 degrees.
Check out the launch at http://nasa.gov & look for NASA TV.
CNN covers launches so check it out & then go outside.

Did you guys know that one of the emergency landing spots is Atlantic City International airport?

I am flying down on thursday with my wife & kids to watch. I recently acquired a contact at NASA & we will be viewing it from the Banana Creek VIP bleachers. It's the closest one can get to the launch!!!!!!!

Just out of dumb luck we saw a shuttle launch while we were in Jacksonville for the poker run this year. We grabbed a cab from the marina back to the hotel and one of the guys in there with us mentioned that the shuttle was about to launch. When we got to the hotel we waited outside for a few minutes and saw it pass by.

I was fortunate enuff to see a NIGHT launch, back in the 1980's...I had a tractor/trailer job back then and was doing a delivery to a restarant in Daytona....everyone at the store sat on the trailer roof, 13'6" tall and watched.....extermely cool!!!

Not good DJD, two of the ECO sensors in the external tank have failed while tanking and are threating Atlantis for a scrub and a possible rollback to the VAB. This launch might be delayed until after Christmas.
