I am getting ready to start restoring hull # 3 and i have some soft deck issues "insert joke here" I was wondering is the for deck balsa cored or wood also it looks like the soft spot runs the length of the deck and is 10 inches wide was this a seperate piece of fore down the center?
thanks
Josh

The deck on that boat was balso cored with a strip of marine plywood running down the center for strength.
Take off your deck hatch and it should show you the areas of woood vs balsa.
The areas around the hatch is where the water could get in and start your soft problems after so many years.

I have Second Choice no hatch on this boat was the center still ply? The problem started when the saftey line was removed and the holes were never filled

Yes...they were built with that plywood strip for strength on the inside...... to do what the 28SS Cigarette had that strip on the outside to do.
You can see the raised deck on the 28 compared to the flat deck on the 24 right next to it.
