Finding old threads?

Finding old threads?
I just might not be paing attention to something ,but I can't seem to find very early threads? I go to any random section (gen boating,tech etc.) and it only seems to go back to early 2002. I've been a member since late '01 so I know the forum was up. Do these older threads just get purged and lost over time? Thanks Mike
