Default How do I get a prop lock off iff I dont have the key??

I picked up my new(used) outboard today, and I went to take off the old prop, and install mine, but the damn thing has what looks like a wheel lock holding it on insead of the nut. I will call the shop that sold the motor to me on monday, but I dont think they will have it. Any Ideas???

Its not hard, I am having problems with the Mcguard locks/nuts loosing, If I don't keep an eye on it I would loose a prop.

I've heard you can get them off by using 2 screw drivers and then a wrench or tool to turn the screw drivers. You insert the screw drivers down inside the lock. Then use the wrench / tool to turn the screw drivers to remove the lock. Good luck.

Go to sears and buy the sockets that are used for removing rounded off nuts. These sockets grab into the nut and then come off as normal. I used them to get the lug nuts off a corvette when the previous owner had no idea where the key was.

You can draw a picture of the pattern and fax it to Mcguard and they will sell you a new key. They only have about 4 or 5 keys.

Good luck!

well, it wasnt as easy as a wheel lock.

good product, took me about 3 hours, and 7 dremel cutting wheels to cut off the ring around it, then I could jam the socket on, and get it off, all without scratching the prop.

Anyone need a 17 mirage??
