Captain Ron's Bar & Grill in Sunrise Beach has received approval from the Missouri State Water Patrol on the business's application to hold the event formerly known as the Lake Rescue Shootout boat race on Lake of the Ozarks next summer.

After hearing presentations on Dec. 17 from three applicants, the water patrol determined the safest overall location would be around the 34.5 mile mark just downstream from the Hurricane Deck Bridge. The course will run downstream from the bridge approximately two miles on the southwest side of the main channel. Provisions will be made to address concerns property owners on the southwest side of the main channel may have regarding ingress and egress from their docks during the race, according to a news release from the water patrol.

The dates requested and approved for the boat race are Aug. 23-24.

"The layout of the course ended up being the key factor" said Col. Rad Talburt. "The course is straight and can be pushed up against one side of the channel which makes it easier to manage from our standpoint."

Ron Dugan of Captain Ron's Restaurant made contact with Staff for Life and Lake Regional Hospital to address some of the emergency medical service concerns. Staff for Life will commit a helicopter to be on-site at the event, said Talburt.

"Safety is our priority," he said. "Out of the three applications, I believe this will be the safest location."
