Went to air up my trailer tires and looked at my lug nuts. They were swollen to where I couldn't get a lug wrench on to them and are 2 years old. I removed one and found they had a casing on them. I removed the casing and found a steel lug nut underneath. The steel lug nut is hollow. Just no way to wash salt water from these. Will try another option. Didn't want some OSO'ers to get stranded like I would have with a flat.

That is the typical junk that comes with wheel packages and from autozone etc. Factory lugs are often the same way on trucks too.
Summit racing has Gorilla stainless lugs for a pretty good price and they are lifetime warranty.

check out McGard in Orchard Park, NY. They make locking lug nuts, outdrive locks, prop locks, as well as solid lug nuts. All made here in USA!!!!!!!

I had that once. Well maybe more than once and they were blue too.

Summit could not help me out at all. As a matter of fact they hung up the phone when I told them about it. I had to get someone else to help me out!

That might explain why one of my trailers wheels passed me on 95 in Florida a few years back...


Actually I have made my mind up that it was my own fault for not checking the tightness of the nuts every fuel-up....

Just picked up 48 all stainless steel nutz. Took about a day to remove the others by splitting the casing off the stubborn ones. I would have been hosed with a flat.

After removing the casings on the OEM lug nuts, I went to replace them 1 at a time with the new SS lug nuts. Started on the first wheel and now 2 of the studs are spinning in the hub!!!!!!!!! Now I have destroy the center wheel cap just to gain access to the wheel nut. What kind of dumb *ss company puts steel lug nuts on a boat trailer????? It's not a cheap trailer as it supports my 46' Black Thunder.

I just went through this with the Summit cased stainless nuts. Son of a motherfudpucker!!! I was yelling obscenities and throwing tools and lug nuts all over the barn.

11 of 36 of mine separated. It was a ROYAL PITA to get them off, and I ended up denting 5 out of 6 of my centercaps in the process.

Thanks for the heads up Brian. That really sucks. But from my experience going through a lot of lug nuts on race cars, I figured out to only use open wheel nuts. And if cosmetics are an issue, find another way to make them look pretty.

Last year there was a guy selling open, stainless wheel nuts for a decent price but I haven't seen that listing in a long time. The only place I can come across them nowadays is Load Master Trailer in FL: www.loadmastertrailer.com
