I talked to a guy with a 280 last summer, he had just replaced the transome on it . is there some issue with velocitys or just people mouting stuff to there transome and not caulking the penatrations good enough.

It's not typically a construction issue but a rigging issue. On my '96 26' Velocity the transom was wet due to the factory not sealing the holes used to mount the swim platform or the thru hull pipes! Steve repaired it before it got too bad but had I not caught it in time it would have meant a complete transom repair.

Contrary to popular belief caulking isn't the answer, all thru transom holes should be resin sealed AND caulked. Caulk alone or resin alone will not do the job in the long run.
