Default carbed 502 mag combos

want to know what you think or have tried, rebuilding gen4 502's, of course want to enhace, cant afford 731 roller goodies, have 188 heads, will port new valves etc, thinking airgap intake and 800-850 holley, have 496 take off alum manifolds/ss risers, cam is my big debate, looking at two families 420 cam with 226/236 .534/.553 and next up between 420 and 465 cam cc278 234/244 .564/.566 both 112LSA, open to other suggestions. I normally cruise 3300-3800,occasionaly push low 4's lots of slow no wake and need to idle. of course once in a while WOT. what have you guys tried? how does it work- idle, torque ok for planing etc thanks Randy

Well, here's a very good suggestion.....if you do anything regarding a cam, at least call "RMBuilder" (Bob Madara) of Marine Kinetics in N.Y. He is an expert at taking all of your engine specs into consideration, application, how you want it to run and come up with a cam profile custom tailored to your engine. Bob has done this for a lot of offshore boaters including me and he is very reasonable in his pricing. Have fun.

You can either PM Bob or call him..(585) 654-8583

I used ported factory heads and a "RMBuilder" cam.......

Hope it helps some...

The fiirst cam is not the actual 420 cam, but is very close. You may want to go with the actual 420 cam(Crane 132561) since it is on a 114 lob sep with the 496 exhaust. You may have reversion issues with 112 and still might with 420 cam. I would also talk to rmbuilder.

I just had RMBuilder do a custom one for my new motor and he's a pleasure to work with. Very helpful and an expert on his work.
