I posted over in the general section but wanted your specific knowledge here. I've got stock 496HO's w/ switchable exhaust. Screw the neighbors, I need some noise. I figured that I could do this on the cheap by just switching out the tips. I got some suggestions as to Eddie Marine but they may not be exact replacements. Anybody know of a brand and model which would be an easy fit w/ no drilling, etc? Do I need to reconfigure or reprogram/ recalibrate anything? Lastly, how loud is it w/o the silencers in the stock tips? TIA

With a 2003 model boat it would have come from the factory with the big mufflers on the back. If they are still there then yes you will be pleased with the difference if you replace them with the exhaust tips. I have done this on three boats and it is very straight forward. The ones from Eddie Marine, Rex Marine, Dana etc are pretty much all the same and will fit fine. Just get the right diameter which in your case is probably 4 inch and get the transom mount and worse cae you may have to drill one new hole but they will probably fit exactly where the mufflers did. Just seal them with some 5200 and you are good to go.

The DMP exhaust tips are 4" outlets with a 6" outside diameter on the mounting flange.

All DMP tips include the new truly silent flapper carriage. Easily service-able if necessary, no more taking out your exhaust tips for burned out or noisy flappers.

does anyone know , a friend just purchased a baja 192 islander, with the 5.0 220hp motor and it has thru hull ext, he wants to put tips on it, any suggestions? he wants the extra perf? and the sound. thanks

I just put the Eddie Marine 100-12 tips on my outlaw a couple of months ago. Yes there is a difference in sound--the tips are noticeably louder. Like Dock said you have to drill a different mounting hole because the flange pattern is different than the stock tips. The hardest part maybe getting the old tips off. Mine had a rubber gasket instead of gallons of 5200 around the flange so they came off pretty eaisly but earlier models may not have had the gasket and may have used 5200 or something like it. If you want more noise you will get it with the tips. They also have a tiney rattle sound at idle because of the internal flapper but the sound goes away at higher rmps. I put the Dana Marine tips on my H2x while the boat was on the lift, all mounting holes lined up with the original Corsa muffler tips, ( no drilling) and the flapper is quiet, they sound great and were a excellent choice.

Do your flappers have a warranty? I've gone thru 2 sets of replacement (3 total) flappers from EM.

Dana Marine Flappers carry a lifetime limited warranty. The only limitation is we will not provide a warranty for overheated flappers.

The beautiful thing about DMP tips/flappers is that in the event of a flapper failure, the flappers are easily serviced externally. You don't need to remove exhaust hose, or the exhaust tips. You don't have to reach way up inside, they're right there for easy access.

Over the last two years we have sold over 700 exhaust tips and we have not had one reported failure, or one complaint about flapper noise levels.

A no B.S. statement is that you will not find an exhaust tip on the market that has been engineered like the DMP tips. We took alot of time in designing this product for unmatched functionability, and to be quite honest, just some plain old common sense. Exhaust tips as they currently exist just don't make sense.

Anyone who has had to waste their time removing tips to send them back in to a manufacturer for repair would agree that inferior flapper designs are a joke.

You guys have flappers? Mine lasted about 5 minutes & I've never seen the need to replace them. Never wished I had replaced them either.

I just worry about wave's washing into the pipes on my 272. Other than that no reason to have them.
