Jegs and Summit Racing 502MAG Overhaul
SubscribeAnyone have a good marine engine contact at Jegs or Summit Racking. I need a complete engine over haul parts package and would like to deal with someone that knows at thing or two about marine motors.
Thanks,
Mike
Thanks,
Mike
Try asking for Jim Gelder @ Jegs. He was in sales and has always messed with boats. Tell him Linwood from Va said hello.
Be careful using Summit or Jegs for any marine engine performance build expertise or advise! There just isn't enough there! I know I'am going to catch flak for this opinion but believe me it's not without foundation!
" You should go to a Brain Surgeon for brain surgery not a Dentist!!" The're both MD's right? !!

You need to know what parts you need to order from either place. Exactly what do you need???? What do you consider a parts overhaul package??? There really is no such thing.
What parts you need is usually determined by the machine shop that takes the engine apart.

Normally I wouldn't touch this subject but for everyone on the boards knowledge sake and of course to express my opinion why not try them and then try us lets face it were here on the boards to support all of you that are of the OSO family? As noted earlier if you are just looking for "Stock" replacement parts I'm sure a generic federal mogul kit can be supplied that would meet the O.E spec'sOriginally Posted by Raylar

But if your looking for knowledge and expertise and the opportunity to get the very most power back from your engine after the rebuild you may want to try one of us many OSO supporters? Our (CP'S) real fortay is taking originally equipped stock engine applications and helping provide you the parts to make it a better engine through the use of premium JE forged pistons, moly rings, H-14 bearings, better gaskets, improved camshaft grinds, ECU Re-programming, and more.
In my experience the cost of doing the job with superior parts just doesn't seem to be that much more money. We are direct master distributors of JE, Fel-Pro, Comp Cams, etc. just like the folks at Jegs or Summit nothing against them they are great companies but lets face it there specialty is cars. Car's run fast for seconds and boats run fast for minutes believe it or not there's a huge difference.
What I would need to know is what bore size you will be using, what bearing sizes you will need and what your idea of a kit consists of and lastly the quality or parts or brands you choose and I will be glad to see how we stack up against all the other guy's. A little friendly competition might surprise everyone.
Thanks for the consideration

once ya find what ya need try http://www.sdparts.com/,if ya buy enough ive seen them give a extra 10% off on orders. They have competitive prices.
You are going down a dangerous path my friend.
And like CP said, usually it is only a few dollars more to go ahead and upgrade the thing while you have it apart.
Most of the guys on this board can get competitive pricing with JEGS and Summit, and the few dollars you save is not worth loosing your summer IMO.
Good luck with your project anyway.

I'm in Ohio- in Summit's hometown and not far from Jegs. They're both great companies, have tons in stock and excellent customer service & policies. Neither are even close to being the lowest priced on anything they sell and other than a few isolated instances of employing a knowledgeable hobbyist, they have mostly order-takers in their sales departments. They don't rely on expertise to sell their products, they rely on strong marketing. Contact one of our members- mrhorsepower (gellner) or young's performance and get the straight skinny.
