Hi guys!
My first post here, I've been reading the threads posted over the years - lots of good reading/info! I came across an ad for a Baja 29 Outlaw (2005) that has a single 496. I never knew you could get an outlaw that big with a single motor. Has anyone seen/owned one like this? Any issues - positive or negative? The guy says it'll do 62.

There's quite a few at LOTO, from what I've
been told, they ride good,( although the 2 29's
w/twins I had seem to ride good too)
62 on a optimistic faria speedo maybe.
Probably more like 52 true speed.
There's a couple of guys on here that have/had
29 singles, maybe the'll chime in.
I had no complaints on my 29's, other than
rear cleat placement.

never riden in a single 29-30 (except for woman !
), so it's just an opinion from someone who does'nt really know... I would not buy this! Never!
But before going too far in this, go ahead, try it out, and let us know! So we can maybe learn if we are wrong...
I did a test one time with a friend. Same day, same ride, same speed. both 26 foot boat, he had a 454 mag, I had twin 350, spent SAME amount of gas...
That was with a single 26. so single 29 must be slow and reeeeeeally thursty!

There is no way I would get a 29 with a single. First of all, I love my twins, especially when docking (hands off the wheel, on the sticks only). Secondly, it would definately be a dog with a single 496.
There are plenty of really nice 29 Outlaws with twins that can be had for decent money (maybe even mine! super clean 98 with only 180 hours) so I would pass on a single.

I also have a twin engined boat (smallblocks, in a´93 Chris Craft) and it uses far less fuel than the same model with a single big block.
Look at the dash on a 29, single too. They look pretty bare with so few gauges and levers!

I owned a 29 single with a 454 Mag, ran round 54 on GPS. It's a awesome riding boat for LOTO. Most poeple with 29 twins at LOTO will tell you the single 29 rides much better. The speed was the only negative issue I had with the boat.

Obviosly my single with a 454 Mag wouldn't run 70 so the speeds at WOT and rides would be different.

I had the same question about a month ago, and took the majority's advice and went with the twins.
I obviously haven't had the opportunity to test it at the LOTO yet but I think I made the right decision.
Also got a pretty good deal, so that goes a long way too.
