Default Mercruiser 496HO

Hi!
Is there any specs of Fountain Lightning 35 and 38 with Mercruiser 496 ho 425 hp fuel consumption with cruise and top speed? What are for example their cruise and top speeds. When I googled FL 38 with Mercruiser 496 ho I couldn't even find any newer model. Are they so seldom?Maybe it is too small engine for the boat. But one would think, that it would be much more economical than Mercruiser 525's.

One neat thing about those 496HO's is they have Smartcraft. With an ECM scanner you can tell what your fuel consumption is at any given RPM at that minute. The 496's have better warranty too. The few missing MPH's on the top end are not enough to justify the extra cost IMHO. You can expect speeds in the low to mid eighties.

Default 496 ho

Smartview is quite nice and useful, when you have bought the boat, but if you want to make smart decisions, it's better to find out the facts in advance, so is there any specific knowledge about the fuelconsumption at cruise and top speed preferably of Fountain Ligthning 38 or 35 with above engines?

An 06' 35L will do 79mph with HO's.

A 38, staggard, HO's, should run low 80.

Post this in the fountain section or do a thread search there.

I had a 1991 35' non-step with carbureted 502 magnums, (390 hp) that regularly saw mid seventies. That's why I estimated a step-bottom with 425's low to mid 80's.

The 35 X does 79 with the 496HO's. I would think the 35 L with twin steps would have to be in the low 80's.
I have never kept track of my fuel consumption in my 33Powerplay with 496Ho's but I know its not bad. My 28 Searay Sundanser with a single 496 burns almost the same amount of fuel on a weekend, going to the same places.
