Thumbs up Evinrude Engines

I just saw a commercial on TV for Evinrude for anyone looking for outboard engines

Evinrude® E-TEC® is the only outboard in the industry that offers 3 years or 300 hours with no dealer-scheduled maintenance†. That's no oil changes, no belts to replace, no hassle. For 3 years all with a 5 YR Warranty, and up to $500.00 gas card

why does Evenruid test there 2 stroke against everyone elses 4 stroke. Look on the Mercury site and there is a all 2 stroke comparison. The Merc and yamaha both out perform the Evenruid when compairing apples to apples

The sneezers are stuck in the 90's. It seems to me they copied merc technology from optimax's for Etecs.

How long do they think a pint of gear lube in a gearcase is supposed to last.

BRP owns SeaDoo, CanAm four wheelers, snow moblies and now Evinrude. They like to be the fastest. It wont take them long to speed it up.

PLUS BRP is a Canadain company, Not another JAP company, give a little support. Keep the jobs on this side of the ocean.

If you want reliabilty and resale go Yamaha.....If you want speed go Merc. Have boats with all three. The Yamaha's are the ticket. My .02 for what it's worth. 3-years and 300 hours can't be good......

They make nice stuff. They'll have to start from scratch on their outboards if they are going to compete in the go fast market.

Evinrude e-tecs are VERY over hyped. Here are some FACTS on them that Evinrude conveniently leaves out:

1. E-tecs cost significantly more to buy than other 4S engines of the same hp. Compare their prices to Suzuki 4S's, which are very well respected, at this online dealer.

- e-tec 250 hp: $ 16,000

- Suzuki 250 hp: $ 12,000

http://www.edsmarinesuperstore.com/suzuki_outboards.htm

2. According to Evinrude's own testing the e-tecs get WORSE fuel economy than a 4S. The E-tec burns 3 gallons more across the operating range. Even at a 1K rpm troll, the E-tec burns twice as much as the F250. Do the math but thats gonna cost significantly more than a 4S in fuel.

Check out these results:

http://www.evinrude.com/NR/rdonlyres...DD/0/PE426.pdf

http://www.yamaha-motor.com/assets/p...-t-f250tur.pdf

3. Their specially formulated two stroke oil costs $ 40 per gallon and their is no substitute, you have to buy only theirs.

4. Resale on any boat with a 2S engine is going to be much worse than the same boat with any 4S on it. The public simply prefers 4S's.

- A top quality builder like Intrepid, who has a backlog for their boats over a year long, installs 4S's on the vast majority of the boats they built. Their customers can afford to buy whatever they want and they prefer 4S's. If you're at the Miami boat show go look at whats on the transoms of their boats there.

So you end up paying more at the beginning to buy an e-tec, they use more fuel to run them, and you get less back when you go to sell a boat with them - thats better ??

Its your money.
