With all the really good oil filters out there in the market, why would anybody by a Fram filter for use in an expensive marine high performance engine. Take the good ones and a Fram and cut them open and compare, it will most likely be the last Fram you buy. Remember that generally when big corporations spend more money on advertsizing than on product improvements the product usually suffers!. Make it sound good a sell a sh**load of em!

What would you suggest in replacement to the HP-4's?

Ray,
I wouild also like to know which you recommend. I am running a Fram HP-6 A. I thought they were the filters to run. I am also surprised that the HP-6A is not part of the recall. Maybe because the case is bigger?

I agree with Ray. Fram filters suck. They just have better marketing than yhe other guys out there. I always use WIX on all my vehicles. On my boat I use the WIX 51060R. It is the wix replacement for the hp4.

FRAMS are junk. I wouldn't put them in a 20-year old beater.

Very interesting read and I appreciate the information.
Guess I have been one of the lucky ones as I have used the HP4 now for six years with no problems at all.
Now I have to figure out what to do with the four I have in the shop.
I think I will do the cut open and compare test.
Thanks
