A buddy of mine has a soft spott in his transom between the two outdrives. We think the water got in from one of the exhaust holes and worked its way down. Anyway the transom is not soft on the outside, but the inside feels as if it is delaminated from one exhaust hole on the top and spreading to the width of the two outdrive assemblies on the bottom. His question is can he use a grease gun, put some fittings in and pump some resin into the delaminated part???? He knows that it will have to be fixxed the right way eventually but doesnt want to loose out on this summer by redoing the whole transom this year. So, I guess his main concern is, will his boat make it through the summer with this repair??????

I've seen a boat builder inject Cavasil into a rotted transom quite successfully. Use somebody who is VERY familiar with the resin you decide to use.

If too much heat is generated it will warp the mating surfaces of the outer transom plates.

I feel your pain. My boat is in the shop at this very moment getting the finishing touches of a completely new transom. Once they start leaking, these things deteriorate quickly. My started leaking pretty fast summer before last and I managed to squeeze one more complete summer out of it. Of course to do this one must have a good automatic bilge pump. I slept in my boat nearly every weekend and constantly worried about waking up in a pool of water. A new transom, by the way is not a cheap endeavor. I have a twin engine boat and it is costing me 5K. Good luck.

I wouldnt recommend doing any of the injection methods. they only mask the problem for a short while. Its about the equivelant to that Motor Medic stuff you put in the oil of a worn out engine. If the wood is wet enough to de-lam the damage is already done.


Its just a roll of the dice weather it will make it through another season. The problem with injecting anything in there is it may make that section of transom hard again but will do nothing for strength. at best it will just slow the process. he will just have to keep a good eye on it through the year and put a transom in it when he can
