A few months ago, I purchased a new 22 Daytona with a 572cuin Quad Rotor 1100 HP with AUTRONIC EFI. The boat has been running great, but now I'm having a problem.. The motor starts, runs, idles great, but when you get to 3000 or so rpms, it dumps fuel big time, shutting down, fouling plugs, etc. Mark in Kenner is checking it out, fuel pressure-ok, injectors-ok, injector wires-ok, comp.-ok, valve springs and settings-ok.. I even have a spare ECM which was swapped and the problem is still there. Any HELP would be appreciated.. Dustin, do you have any other ideas???? THANKS, Bandit

Jerry,
It actually sounds like the TPS sensor is moving or shorting and adding accel enrichment. If you have somebody with a laptop, data log the info and see if the TPS voltage spikes while at that rpm. If the sensor thinks the throttle is moving and it is really not, then it floods the motor. Can you throttle past it if you start at a lower rpm or does it no matter what?
Thanks,
Dustin

I talked to the turbo guru in ca. about this and he said he knew of other people having a little trouble with the autronic units. Only thing he mentioned about that unit was that he thought it could suffer from rfi noise possibly causing the trouble. Not that it was a bad unit at all but it is definitely not the most expensive one either. He said that he did change one with an efi technology unit and problem went away . Also said the efi technology units were heavily shielded against rfi noise.; Still makes good sense what Dustin said about tps. By all means change it out quick. I want to put efi on my turbo motor but I want to see what it is going to take to get yours fixed first. By the way does that quad rotor whipple make good top end turbo like horsepower or what?

Bandit, How's it going?? I am the guy that has the 28Daytona that was at Elsinore when you guy's were running your boat. Dustin's right you need to have someone Data Log your system when this is happening. You will find out right away what the problem is.
Good Luck

Hi Pyle-------Yes I remember you. I really like your coverage in Hot Boat. As you probably remember, Hot Boat took a lot of pictures of our Bye You Bandit II that same day at Elsinore...I heard your pictures were lost----------Did they lose all the pictures they took that day?? Yes, like Dustin suggested, Mark is checking it out with his lap top and I think he is on to something ---a short in the wiring harness??
