Question 29 Outlaw

I am looking at buying a 1997 or 1999 baja 29 Outlaw. Does anyone know if there are any major changes between these years? Both have 454 mags. The newer one has latham steering, monster gauges, and silet choice exhaust. other than that they are the same boats. The price is much different the 1999 is 69K the 97 is 57K. Any info on these boats?

Thank You

Go with the 99. It sounds like it has the sst package. Resale will be better on the 99. Plus there are upgrades in the 99 vs the 97. You should be able to get the 99 for low 60's.

Personally I would shop around a little more, I just bought a 2000 SST with less than 50 hours for about 65K, I took about 3 months before I finally gave in, and couldnt find a better deal.
Good things come to those who wait. Just my opinion, I almost jumped on the first person that called me back, It was a 99 but not an SST and had about 70 hours on it, wanted 74k originally. Two months later he was down to 50k and I almost went for it till this deal came along.

Just be aware of the stringer issue on 29 Outlaws prior to mid 2000 model year. I have pictures of a 29 Outlaw that suffers from the stringer issue.

I don't believe you'll find a '99 29' Outlaw with twin 454 Mags in the 60K's. You might find that boat without the Mags for around that price. I would expect to pay around 75K for a boat with Mags.

The stringer issue invloves the main stingers in the engine compartment busting loose from where they are braced to the interior of the hull. It is a documented issue. The affected area was re-designed mid 2000 model year.

Plenty of 29's around here with mags and even 502's for in the 60's

I found a 99 outlaw with mags loaded options for $69,999. Has besides mags, Latham steering, silet choice exhaust, Monster gauges, SST pack. with trailer. with (claimed) 50 hours! But I am not buying it due to the problems I hear they had with strakes on these boats. I may look at sonics, powerquests, or another company. I am hearing too many complaints on these baja's from the other board members. Confused here now!
