Default how can I loose the 496 sea water pump?

I just don't understand why this Mercury part is so easy to break and so expensive to replace. What ways are available to get rid of this piece of junk and install something else? My pump is the type with the water pressure sender on it.

I have ordered the stainless kit from R&R products in Havasu, does anyone have feedback on this product?

Thanks.

Good question. I'd like to see the answer to that too. OR at least put them in a better location like Volvo-Penta did or used to do, on their King Cobra drives. Stupid simple access to change the impellers located on the drives themselves. Merc and Volvo need to hook up.

That kit form R&R works very well. There is a little grinding involved but nothing major. It should eliminate the issues with sand eating up the housing.

I just fired the boat up today with the kit and I am picking up water at idle so it looks good so far. I am planning to put the boat in the water in a couple of days and I will let you guys know how it goes.
