I will be removing my trim tabs and wanted to save the hoses and indicator wires that go thrue the transom,the factory uses 5200 to seal then to the transom,is their anything I can you to soften the 5200 and removethe hoses and wires without breaking them??

heat it up with a heat gun , or poke a piece of wire thru and cut your way around them . 5200 is awesome untill you want to take something off.. good luck

i used combustion-chamber cleaner to soften the stuff.my gas fill was caulked w/5200 and it worked.

Use DeBond. It's designed for exactly that purpose. I've got some, and it works.

the debonder didn't work worth a chit on my stock tips.

it cant get at the 5200 to debond it unless it can get under it or between it and the surface.
By the time you accomplish that, half the work of removal is done!
that's the conclusion I was left with. Half a can is still around here somewhere.

Good luck, On a large surface like behind trim tabs it is almost impossible to remove. It is likely to pull the gelcoat off the glass before the 5200 releases.

Chlorox straight up will soften up 5200. Trims tabs? the main thing is take it easy. Take a box knife and cut into the 5200 as deep as you can. Pour on some straight up Chlorox let it soak in over night. repeat soaking it in for a couple of days. Then get some wedges and drive em in just a little. Remember the key words are take it easy! Go too fast and like Mobilemercman said you'll lift the gel coat too. Anyways each day drive the wedges a little deeper cut what you can and spritz on some more Chlorox. Also the wedges that come with them slimjim kits work real good.

Paint thinner works with a repeated process as it is oil based as is 5200 and paint thinner cuts it eventualy.Takes time and patience.
