Default Mercathode box

This may be a stupid question but here it goes.. I am putting in new motors. There is a blue box with mercathode on it.. Is that part of the mercury ignition and do i have to install this back in the boat. I am putting Msd ignition on the new motors..

I am thinking that this helps with the electrlosis some how..
