Wondering if there is any speed to gain? I heard Donzi does this sometimes?

I cut the skegs down a couple inches, tapered and sharpened leading edge on these engines. Ran hull mounted water pick-ups. The tip of the nose cone was two inches above the bottom of the hull. At speed about the only thing IN the water were the skegs. Picked up 1-1.5 mph. That's running well over 100 mph in a 2000 lb rig and I was trying to squeak out each and every mph. Not worth the effort on anything heavier or slower.

Read on here somewhere relating to #6's that the benefit of modifying skegs (sweeping them back) only started above 120 mph

When the XR Sportmaster first came out there were many threads about how they were running 2 - 3 MPH slower than the standard XR lowers. The racers said they were having success cutting the Sportmaster skegs down and getting that speed back.

I've done it and it's easy. All you need is a good solid rock below the surface Generally I notice significant speed loss until I get the prop fixed

In all seriousness though, you have to be running triple digits and a pretty high X to gain speed by doing this.

Or a good sandbar running over 80mph will do the trick turns a Bravo drive into a shorty..
