Default 28' scarab excel, 540 merlin 640hp prop help

Hey guys. I have a 28' scarab excel with a 540" merlin that is putting out 640hp @5500rpm, and an XR drive. What do you think I should run with this set up? Any advice is appreciated. Also, what kind of speeds should I expect? Thanks, Matt

There are so many variables that it makes it tough to determine the top speed without a base line. If you have exact wet weight including all gear and fluids, I can get a very close guess. Try a 28-30 Bravo 1 propeller as a starting point.

I had a customer with an identical setup. He ran a 28 bravo 4 blade. He was running high 70's.

A 28 B1 is what you'll need - will get you in the mid 70's around 5400 RPM - been there

Thanks Scarab28. How fast do you run, and how does it handle at those speeds?

Currently running M2 procharger on a 540, approx 800 Hp. Currently runs 80 GPS at 5k with a 32 B1. I just picked up a 30P B1 to see if I can get the RPM's up in the power range. I ran at 78 with the 28P B1, but it ran about 75 with the 28P on same setup but a 468 BBC. It begins to get squirly over 75 MPH. I hear going with a two inch shortie and extension box straightens the ride out.
