De-Winterized this weekend and everything went fine except. It seems when the carbs are loading up when docking. It runs and idols fine but when docking in a difficult spot where there is a lot if forward and reverse going on they are getting too much fuel and tries to kill the motors. Adjusted the idol valves and they were non functional. I can take them all the way out and nothing. They are rochester quadrajets on fresh 454's.

Any Ideas or can anyone rebuild in STL or LOTO?

sounds like a float valve is sticking and flooding motor.

Holleys are much simpler to tune. Go with some 800cfms with mech secondaries.

I would rather not replace them if I dont have to. I was hoping to get these going and if not them buy new ones as a last resort

with the engine running try tapping on around the fuel inlet lightly may unstick the needle and seat on a q-jet..Rob

Rockstar, are the motors stock? A camshaft change (low vacuum) with a Q-jet will sometimes give some crazy characteristics, much like you stated.

Check your base timing as well. If the base timing is low, the idle speed screw may be jacked up to compensate. If the primary blades are open too far, the mixture screws will have no effect. Look down the primary bores while it's idling and see if there is raw fuel dripping down the venturis.

sounds like idle air bleeds may be clogged, try spraying carb cleaner down the air bleed holes, (small brass plugs with holes in them) on top of the carbs. If you have to replace, look at the edelbrock 1410's, easy to set up and low maintenace.
