I am getting ready to fix my transom rot and some stringer repair on my 38 Scarab. My question is would it be a good idea to chop in the glass after I "tab" in the transom and stringers?. Thanks Jim

no, do a simple layup. 1.5 oz mat than 3/4 plywood another 1.5 oz mat, 3/4 ply again than 2 layers of 1808 or higher. double up the tabbing al around. you could use the chop in place of the 1.5 oz mat if you wanted. there are other layups but this is pretty standard and can be bulked up if you want.
What kind of chopper gun do you have?

I agree with Dave. Took his advice and went with the 1.5 oz mat then 3/4 ply another 1.5 oz of mat then 3/4 ply and went with 3 layers of 1808 to encapsulate(had some extra glass)and am going to finish tabbing in this weekend.Came out very solid !Thanks for the info Dave!

Glassdave. Thanks for the info. I have the U.S. Composites chop gun. The only glass work I have done as for right now is custom speaker boxes. There is not to many worries if the glass is not thick enough.
One more question. some of the stringers just seem to be thin, like I can crush them with plyers. Should I cut them out and replace them?

if you have stringers that are that weak, yes pull them and replace them while you have it all apart.
Laying up a transom is much different than speaker boxes but if you have the basics down you should have no trouble. You will need the right schedule and materials. Actually if you check out the thread Justics put up on the subject i think its covered pretty well. if you need more clarafication just let me know and i'll put together a punch list for ya. I just layed up a 38 flatdeck Scarab and have plenty of pics.
