I know this should be in the Technical section, but I wanted some quick answers... anyway I have 1998 600 Merc SC's and I was runningfor a half jour at 3500 RPM, came off plane and idled for 2-3 minutes , then one engine just shut down. Let it sit at lunch for 2 hrs and still didnt fire, I have no spark, might be the module inside the distribtor cap ( looked a little gunked up, also cap. I am not going to find a marine cap and parts today, can I just get a regular cap and components from the auto store and mount it as long as the shaft diameter is the same and the screw holes ???

They all seem to have 2 connection screws comming off them, ( just a quick fix for the day ) !!

As long as the parts match, you should be ok. I run Accel cap and rotor on mine. There isn't anything magical about the merc ignition parts.

It happened to be a bad oil pressure sensor which was shutting to micro switch inside the Cap. where the rotor rotates
