Default 87oct in 365mag?

I always run at least 89oct in it and 91 or 93 if I know I have to keep up with my buddys on big runs. But with gas now $$$ looking to see if it's ok?

I have run 87 in my ScarabIII with no prob but normaly run 89. My Mags are all original with about 400 hours on them. To be honest i cant tell any difference between the two dif. octanes in my boat.

The engine is designed to run on 87 octane. If you use higher octane it doesn't burn as fast and as completely and you are actually loosing power. Bump the timing up to 34-35* and then run 89.

Sure, thats what the engine was built for. If you bump up the timing, go with 89 octane.

When I've run 89 I get a sooty transome. 87 runs best.
