Default 454mpi with procharger, misfire and black smoke

i have a 1998 american offshore i bought last year.i put it in the water today and had a nice ride with it. i have 3 problems:

- the rear deck became all covered in black and i could see black smoke coming from the exhaust.
i felt the boat misfiring at low rmp...it is running very rich or maybe the misfire is creating the un-burnt fuel...seems like both mufflers are smoking black..even throught the back of the boat all over....i saw the black smoke out of the 2 mufflers.

am i running too rich or maybe not burning all fuel ,maybe a bad plugs or wires... any ideas ??

my water temp gage isnt moving at all... where shall i start ? where is the sender that contraols the gage on the dash ? i see where the t-stat is.. there is a single wire hoooked on top of it.. i tried removing it and played with it a little to see if that would send any kind of signal but nothing happened...

would appreciate help on these 2 items...

A few things...

What you have going on is a bit normal for a "bolt on" procharger set up..

They run cold if just put on a stock engine as they dont normally use a tstat.. Also they do run a bit richer than a stock set up on an otherwise stock engine. They do this to help keep the engine comustion temp down to help avoid detonation. An MSD box with a ECM reflash & a 2 bar map sensor can help cut down on the loading up & soot. Or The faster cheaper, but less effective route is a ATI signal conditioner. If you need any of the stuff I can get it drop shipped to you..

i appreciate the help... so basically, i will never be seeing the gage move as it will be always sitting under 140 ??

as far as the soot, i will buy a good cleaner and clean it every time.... it runs very very nicely.... maybe i will look only into the misfire i feel it is doing..change the plugs and wires...cap,rotor...

Misfire could be from just to much fuel.

How does it do once you get it aired out?
