Launched at east chicago today, took a run downtown. Boat ran great. Got to the playpen and noticed the trans slipping. Pulled dipstick and it was dry. Trans was very hot, added 2 qts, still wouldnt engage. Limped on one engine to burnham. Cooler must be leaking, although fluid wasnt milky? Anyone local rebuild a huber 1200? Not a good first day out with new boat

nope, didnt smell anything while running, and rpms were dead even with the other motor. Ran about 3000-3500 rpm. It was pretty windy today, maybe that caused the smell to "blow" away. Trannies were fresh, last year. Kind of weird that it ran fine all the way, and when I came off plane thats when the slipping began. Reverse works fine.

Send it to Huber only. No one else!!!!!!!!!!!! The Zimmermans will take care of it better anyone. They manufacture most if not all of the component in that drive.

Did you check all the fluid levels before you put it in the water??? If they were fine, then you've got a leak from a line, or a seal, to lose that much fluid to cause any damage. Gotta start lookin for the cause of the problem.

Trannies were full before launch, didnt see any leaks. Looks like I will have to yank the motor and trans, send the trans back to huber along with the cooler. I would think that if the cooler was leaking, the trannie oil would have been a strawberry milkshake.
I would have thought the trans would be a little tougher than this. From the point I noticed it slip, was idling about 1-2 minutes, then eased into throttles to get on plane, and noticed the slippage. Shut it down, pulled dipstick, showed nothing, and smelled burnt. Added about 2 qts, shifted back and forth to reverse a few times, showed full, and put a load on it, still nothing. Shut it down and limped to burnham on the good motor.
I need to find a place to pull the engine!

If you want to get depressed. Send it to Dave at Wesco. He will find EVERYTHING wrong with the boat. He will pull it , pressure check the entire system and crate it and ship it. He has been dealing with Huber for many years. It may be worth the trip so you can have a trouble free season.

I sucked all the tranny fluid out into a clear jug. No water, just nasty burnt brown fluid. Started poking around, and noticed one of the rubber hoses going to the tranny cooler was slightly kinked! That would explain it, by the time I got to the playpen it cooked itself. S.O.B.
Today got the wiring disconnected, fuel lines, removed blower, etc. Pretty much ready to come out. A buddy has a 72C tranny for me. The marina has a small truck crane, Im sure they will let me use it. Hoping to remove engine/trans, swap trans, and go right back in with everything. Just sucks doing stuff like this by myself
