Default axle capacity calculation

is there a formula to determine GVWR using the axle capacities? for instance a triple axle I saw had 3 6000# axles but the GVWR was 16,000# not the 18,000# that I woulda suspected. thanks in advance .

Correct...the trailer frame is sitting on the axles too so that weight must be takin into consideration when calculating GWVR.
