Default Latest Record: BREAKFAST AT CAPE HATTERAS, NORTH CAROLINA – LUNCH IN NEW YORK CITY!

BREAKFAST AT CAPE HATTERAS, NORTH CAROLINA – LUNCH IN NEW YORK CITY! LEAD BY GARMIN ELECTRONICS FOUNTAIN MERCURY SETS A WORLD PERFORMANCE RECORD! CAPE HATTERAS, NC TO THE STATUE OF LIBERTY IN NEW YORK 6 HOURS, 10 MINUTES, 8 SECONDS! RECORD SET IN A FOUNTAIN 38 CENTER CONSOLE WITH TRIPLE 300 MERCURY VERADOS AND BOATING MAGAZINE WRITER ERIC COLBY ON BOARD TO RECORD THE TRIP.

WASHINGTON, N.C. 6/03/08
In a six-hour dash from North Carolina to New York, Fountain Powerboats has proven once again that it is the undisputed king of the performance-boat world. A new, totally stock Fountain 38’ CC sportfishing boat powered by three Mercury Marine 300-hp Verado outboards established a new record of 6 hours, 10 minutes, 8 seconds from the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse to the Statue of Liberty. The boat averaged just under 65 mph and .9 mpg for the 410-mile run. “We’ve always said that we have the best performing, most efficient boats on the water and this run reinforces that position,” said Fountain Powerboats President/ CEO Reggie Fountain. “Whether we’re winning world championships and setting speed records in our raceboats, or winning fishing championships, or establishing an endurance and speed record in our sportfishing boats, no one can beat Fountain.”

On board the Fountain 38 CC, which is an almost exact replica of former President George Bush’s new boat, were Fountain’s director of fishing, Clayton Kirby, 54 of Jacksonville, Fla., Fountain’s plant manager and offshore race team crew chief Brian Forehand, 31, of Washington, N.C., and veteran marine journalist Eric Colby, 44, of Raymond, Maine. Colby documented the event and official World Record time for an article that will appear in an upcoming issue of Boating Magazine.

After leaving the docks at the Breakwater Inn in Hatteras Village on June 3 at 5:40 a.m., the team headed southeast out of the channel following the guidance provided by a Garmin GPS. After turning northeast, the boat rounded Cape Hatteras point, starting the official clock at 5:55 a.m.“For the first hour-and-a-half, we ran in 3’ to 4’ seas until the wind changed direction,” said Kirby. “Then the water laid down and the Lord blessed us with calm seas and no wind all the way to New York.”

The Garmin GPS map 5212 led the Mercury powered Fountain in a 410 mile straight line from the Cape Hatteras, NC lighthouse to the Statue of Liberty in New York City. Forehand drove the boat for the duration, managing the fuel consumption to ensure that the team would make the run successfully. “The motors were so fuel efficient I felt as though we were running off of the air” said Forehand. “The Mercury Verados ran flawlessly, without any sign of strain and the boat rode as though we were floating in the clouds” In addition to the article in Boating, the run will be covered on Reggie Fountain’s Offshore Adventures television show which begins in July on Fox Sports Network at 12:00 noon on Sundays.

GO FOUNTAIN, We need to set a run from VA BEACH to eastern shore, only 17 miles but show all the other "fishin boats" who is king.
