Default Police Officer struck by his own boat

In my routine news scouting of weekend boating accidents I found this one to be particularly interesting.

http://www.wnem.com/news/16616249/de...s=sag&psp=news Seems like the police officer was quick to blame everyone but himself. Police stupidity at its finest. A lanyard would have prevented this. Pretty sure this is the only time I've seen someone get busted for throwing up a wake.

COLUMBIAVILLE, Mich. -- The Lapeer County Sheriff's Department said a marine officer is hospitalized in good condition after a boating accident on a reservoir.

The department said the officer was knocked from his boat at about 2 p.m. Sunday by the wake from a passing pleasure boat on the Holloway Reservoir.

Witnesses said the officer's own boat then ran him over at least twice while he was in the water.

Bystanders stopped the officer's boat and transported him to shore.

Reports indicate the officer, whose name wasn't released, was taken to Hurley Medical Center in Flint for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The sheriff's department said the pleasure boat operator, a 26-year-old Otisville man, was jailed for marine violations pending review by county prosecutors.

http://abclocal.go.com/wjrt/story?se...cal&id=6207362 Second report indicates he was chasing a reckless driver.............even more of a reason to be wearing a lanyard.

Glad the injuries are non-life threatening. Only in Michigan can the water police fall out of their own boat and get run over by it.

FLINT (WJRT) -- (06/14/08)--A Lapeer County sheriff's deputy is in the hospital after a freak boating accident at Buttercup Beach.
Police say the deputy fell out of his boat when a wave hit it as he chased a reckless boater around 2 p.m. Sunday on the Richfield Township lake.
Amazingly, the deputy suffered only minor injuries, and was taken to Hurley Medical Center to recover.
The two men that saved him are being called heroes tonight. Matt Holbeck and Justin Hedley of Davison sprung into action when they saw the boat flip.

Uh huh...... so the boat flipped and then ran over the police officer?????
