The first 502 mag I had hit the rev limiter at 5050 rpm's. The boat I have now has twin motors and hits the limiter at 5200 rpm's. My certified mercury mechanic said that some 502 mag's were set at 5050 and some at 5200. I did hit the limiter on both motors so what he is saying makes sense to me. All I know is I am glad my current boat is set at 5200.

well... before i did that i might want to know as a matter of litteral fact what your torque curve looks like. just changing the cam is no assurance that you bought yourself anything at all if the rest of the combination is wrong for one reason or another. it is entirely possible that a prop change and 4900 ( for example ) might buy you more speed. more revs aren't always the answer.
