Adjusting trailer for boat
#1
i need to adjust how my boat sits on the trailer as my water pickups rest on the bottom vbunks. I was going to move the bow stop back about 6" so my transom hangs off by about same amount. do i also need to move my winch stand back also (its not connected to the bow stop)? I plan on using chains to secure the bow to trailer, so there wont be a lot of tension on the winch strap.

You do not want the boat hanging that far off of the bunks. It will cause a hook in the back of the hull over time, especially on an older boat.
Instead, notch your v-bunks, or shorten them, but leave the rest of the bunks alone.
If you MUST move the boat back, leave as very, very, very little hanging off of the back of the bunks.
In order to make sure you put the boat in the right place, every time, put a Sharpie mark (strap) or electrical tape (cable) on your winch, and alight it with a reference point, to always make sure you put the boat in the EXACT same spot.

My first plan was to shorten the bottom vbunks, but the support post is right along the transom, so there really isnt any way to shorten or notch the bunks. I forgot the Cafe that was under it originally had bravo's, while mine has trs's.
I may just try to move it back only 2-3" then to prevent a hook. thats all i really need. I was trying to give myself a couple inches of play just in case i bring it in too much one time by accident.
I tried to post pics yesterday to show what i am working with, but the site kept giving me an "invalid image type" or something error. i may try later tonight.

make sure you don't change the balance of the trailer, you don't want too much reward weight hanging off the back and not enough tounge weight,,why not build the last 6''-12'' of the bunks alittle further out or inside the old bunks

When i get back down there fri, i will see what i can do for changes. i have to take the trailer in to have a leaf collar welded to frame, may see if i can have another set of support braces added on the outside edges of current bunks & then add new bunks.
Added pic of how a Bravo Cafe sat on trailer & how mine sits.

I think i can cut the 2 bottom bunks off at the last cross member & add a support post if ones not present to support the new end of bunks.
Would i then be better off moving that last 4' or so of the bottom bunk out towards the exterior of the pickups, or closer together between the pickups, maybe notching the bunks if needed?

What about "ripping" the bunk laterally about 6 inches towards the front, on the far right and left to allow little "notches" for the pickups?

yeah, that may work. i was worried about the pickup getting caught on a brace, but looking at it more closely i dont think that will be an issue. i'll give it a try.
