Just watching the Chi Cup Race thinking of drive ideas. I put a 700-750 557" in my Aerotech Challenger Super V 24. I have only used it twice, no dial in time yet, busy with work. But I need to start collecting stuff to rid it of it's OMC drive to handle the power, its the fall, winter project. I was thinking an IMCO shorty with a standoff. I am barried in the boat, and have no plans on selling it, I will give it to my son some day when I buy my Apache. I really don't want spend the money on a T.D. Super Cyborg, Titanium, Uranium, Plutonium, #58, desert sump, cryogenically frozen, negative resistance, and speed increases in the 50% range, Alpha One. The X needs to be changed greatly, and the strength needs improvement to handle the new power. Thoughts........

I have had a stock 88 b 1 drive for 10 years with 585hp to 650hp. back in the beginning 88 to 94 with a 330hp 454/ then a 502 390hp, after that the 502 585hp then the 509 650hp just wore it out, and then put together a b1 02 with a new 2'' shortie which brought my drive prop shaft to 5'' below the boat which made a big gain in handling and 4mph plus in speed. so if you go with a b 1xr or b1 x you should be fine if you go with a box set it up another 1'' or 2'' so 4'' or 3 '' below with a b1 prop for bow lift. and that will scream used drive 2500, hd gimbal 2750 to 3500, external steering with full hydraulics is best and you have a 90mph boat thats what a 3500lbs mine is 4000lbs and I ran out of prop at 6000rpm and 83mph with 670hp. k planes help to better than tabs. art

Kinda of what I had in mind. I think the Prop shaft is currently 7-8 ". The boat is 4K lbs. I dont have T.D.'s guts, or lust for glory, but my goal was 95 or so when done. I think it was Jim V who told me he runs his 27 Fountain at one inch. Is that crazy? He also told me his experience with the IMCO shorty on his fountain was it's sharp nose dug in an pulled down too much. Any thoughts....MR

but when I was running I never broke a drive and I am not JT on the throttles, so if your on a budget a b1 x or xr would work fine with the 2'' shortie. hd gimbal your talking around 7 to 8 grand for the 3 pieces drive/shortie/ gimbal hd. a box another 2grand new. or just use the 3'' raised box= 2gs new . drive 3gs used/ new gimbal 3gs no shortie mine works nice well the second one will like the 1st one did. the sc stuff might be double or more unless someone is having a fire sale

Thanks for the thoughts. I agree on the weight verse reliability. My old Baja ran a 565hp on a stock bravo for years and never broke. Where as my old 42 Fountain with Trip 650's broke the Star drive twice. Thanks Guys
