Has anyone completely redone a trailer, blast, zinc, repaint, etc.?

Is it worth doing cost wise, or does it make sense to sell the trailer to someone that can use it (marina as a yard trailer, etc.) and order a new one? Or will redoing it save that much?

Shoot a PM to Phantom Chaos aka Nort. He just had his 38' footer steel trailer under his Formula redone. He has made a few posts about the redo in the past three weeks as well.

always depend on the trailer condition... I redid mine, and think it was worth it...

I took the trailer back to Integrity and had everything redone, sand blasted, repainted, new lights, wiring, wrench, bunks, carpets, bolts, chains, wheels, tires, brake lines, hubs... EVERYTHING EXCEPT the axles. Only cost 4K and was quoted about 10 or more for a new trailer all together. It needed it, the trailer was rusted and looked like hell.

I have seen Wayne at West Coast Trailers redo a couple. Some are just beyond fixing. Rust is rust! If you are going to redo one it cannot be half a$$ed.

I did one myself and it cost over $1200. LOT of time involved if it's done right.

It really depends on the condition!!!!!! If its rusting to where pieces are falling off, then you have lost the integrity of the trailer.. We have seen trailers split apart, scary to think about at 70mph.

I just did my Aluminum trailer over. What a huge job! I don't think it was painted but instead it appeared to be dipped in a plastic coating. Hard as nails and was very hard to feather in bad spots. Also took a ton of paint to recover it. Epoxy Primer, White and Red paint. New wiring, and complete brakes. It still cost about a 3rd of a new trailer.

We redid ours last year striped it , re fabed up some new stuff ,added a bunch of new LED lights, Brakes, rims and tires and then had it blasted and powder coated . Worked out for us, probably could have spent 1-2 k more and bought brand new , but thats not our style.

I spent months repairing my Galvanized trailer for the Formula.
What a headache. The steel peices are easy enought to repair, weld etc.. but the axle bolts and nuts were rusted and I had to replace them. NOT WORTH IT. Buy new. There are some great deals on Alum. trailers in Florida and worth the transport. Be safe.!!! 15000LB Try axle. Kodiak brakes. SST parts etc. $7,000 - $7,500+-
