Default GAS Question

Hello,

New boater with a 91 scarab w/454 mags. I put 100 gallons in (painfully) Memorial day weekend and lost my tow vehicle so havent had it on the water since, although start the engines up every few weeks.

Prob won't be on the water for another month. Should I add anything? I hear that stabil gums up the carbs...

Whatch think?

Thanks! FRank

Sta-Bil does not gum up carbs. I use it all the time. Probably already should have been treated with a fuel stabilizer but it wouldn't hurt to dump some Sta-Bil in the tank and warm up the engines to circulate the treated fuel throughout the system.

Memorial day weekend and lost my tow vehicle

I lost my keys but never the whole vehicle sorry could'nt help myself. My family has used Sta-Bil for a lot of years now without any problems, carbs or EFI. It is a good idea to use it if your boat with sit for extended periods of time, a month or better.

Don't use stabil, use Startron instead. It is designed to work with fuels that have alcohol in them as well. It seems to work the best on saving fuel. It's available at any west marine or marine store. It is claimed to actually improve the octane of fuel that has been sitting (not sure of that). I used it in a jet ski that sat for many months, and the fuel still smelled fresh when I went to use it.

why don't you pump it into your car a tankful at a time until its gone and just start w/ fresh fuel when youre back in business ?

Simple solution.....go boating. The fuel should be fine.

Sta-Bil now has a marine version that is supposed to deal with the ethanol in todays fuels.
