Like alot of motors my 575SCi's have the lousy mechanical fuel pump mounted on the seawater pump. Like 99% of them, mine are leaking fuel into the oil reservoir and tearing out the seals on the sea water pump.
That said: the 525's also have the same fuel pump design. However if you look at Merc parts, the NEWER 525's (#OM956327 and up) have a new part # for the fuel pump (#889275T) but the same parts #'s for sea water pump.
Did Merc get smart and upgrade that POS fuel pump???


BTW: The part # for the old fuel pump is 842429a01

Lots have complained about these pumps leaking. Is it possible Merc has a better design and no-one knows about it???

When I had to change both of mine last year the new ones were different. I'm going to check the part # on my spare tomorrow.

Different? In what way?
Are you still getting fuel in the oil?

The hose barb for the vent line on my old ones came stright off the pump and on the new ones it turns up on a 45. I change the oil in mine every time I do the engines and before every poker run. The oil still smells gassy when I change it but it doesnt build up above the drain hole.

Thats the # on my spares I carry with me. I bought them last July after I had problems. They have the curved vent line like I mentioned in my earlier post which is different from the ones that came on the motors.

I don't think they will.

I have 'em in my boat with no problems.
They're completely rebuildable.
I haven't changed gear oil yet so that will tell the tale if they leak like the stockers.
A shop nearby does a lot of stock car engines and I see CV pumps on them.
