Default Chevy 572

Anyone put one of these in a boat. Got a sweet deal on 2 of them from a dealer that closed. They are 720hp, 650tq, could be a nice setup, let me know if you know how they performed in a boat. Would be gone in a Checkmate 26ft, single eng.

do a search Willy - lot's threads on crate 572s on here.

my 2 cents - make sure everything electrical is marine so you dont go boom and most automotive clearances are too tight for a boating application.....do your homework or you will have overheat issues and possible short lives for those beauties.

From what I've heard the exh valves must be changed to severe duty and the cam changed to a marine cam.Other than that, they should be great.

Correct me if I am wrong, the 720HP version (ZZ572) of the Chevy Performance Parts crate motor is their race version. I.E. high comp ratio = race fuel. The 620HP version is what you really need. Which did you really purchase?

The 720 is high compression. The 620 will still need high octane. As far as mechanically, they'll need to be disassembled and gone thru. The piston to bore clearance is wrong and needs to be opened up by 1.5 to 2 thousandths. They need marine head gaskets and brass freeze plugs. The clearance on the valve stems needs to be opened up and if you plan to run them long & hard, you should swap the exhausts out for Inconel. The Eaton stainless intake isn't bad but I'd prefer a Ferrea or a Manley in its place- and just a few bucks of cost.
