NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- At least four people were killed, several were injured and another was missing Sunday after two boats collided on the Blind River, authorities said.
St. John the Baptist Parish divers were searching Sunday for the missing person, who was apparently thrown from one of two boats involved in a head-on collision.
Lt. Dennis Bueche, a Wildlife and Fisheries spokesman, said about 5 p.m. Saturday, a 20-foot runabout boat collided with a 30-foot cabin cruiser. The boats were carrying six passengers each.
Bueche says of the six passengers aboard the runabout boat, four died, one is in critical condition and one was missing Sunday. The person piloting the boat was one of those killed, Bueche said.
"According to initial reports, the boats were heading in opposite directions when they collided," Bueche said.
Two passengers on the cabin cruiser were injured, but the injuries are not considered to life-threatening, he said.
"Right now, we are trying to zero in on finding the missing person," Bueche said Sunday. "Within another few days, we'll likely know more about what happened."
Bueche said a toxicology test given to the operator of the cabin cruiser came back clean. Results were not immediately available from the pilot of the other boat.
Bueche could not confirm the identities of the victims, but said they ranged in age from 25 to 35.

saw it on the news , the runabout was way up in the trees..from the article ,looks as if it colud have been avoided if the basic rules of the water were applied..

i think mandatory classes should be required on the basics of operating a vessel ...

very sad...http://www.nola.com/news/index.ssf/2...n_boating.html
