Phatkat and I have been reconditioning our boats for 15 years.
We find it quite satisfying to make an old/damaged boat look new again. It does play heck getting to the water every year, but the knowledge we have acquired in that time has been a good education!

Navigator, I'm out here, but just a beginner. I think this makes about 8 years and 3 boats.

Dad and I do all our own work.. Been around boats our whole life.. There's just that speical feeling about looking at a finished boat and saying "I did that" with a big grin on your face.. It is great learning all this new stuff.

I'm on number 3. Haven't figured out how not to lose my butt doing it yet. But, I guess that isn't the point.

Anybody got any good advice on best bang for the buck stuff?

I've want to strip off the paint on the sides and regel the whole thing. I was thinking of having a pro shoot the boat then sand/polish it out myself. Also, I want a new engine/drive. That's just the big stuff.

When we look for a "new" boat I usually go inside and check out the interior for water damage, loose "parts", and anything that is hidden inside. Gene does the outside survey. I get a kick out of snooping with permission.

I havent bought a turn key boat yet, not that I wouldn't like to. It's something about the challange I guess. Usually as soon as one is done Im looking for another.I always say to my wife and myself that this is the last one. But here I am doing another one and thinking about what kind to get after this one. Is there a pill out that can cure me? It's all fun

its so cool to sit back and look and ride in your finished product (but is it ever finished?) just to know you have the satisfaction of saying that I did it myself,and you know exactly how it was done! Ive done 5 cars/trucks and Im on my 2nd boat.

Doing my Formula now. Hope to splash it this summer. Please God Please let me splash it this summer!!!
