John,
I friend of mine did this today... The answer to your question is yes, but with a few new parts and gimble bearing. Call BAM - they have the parts kit and got my friend up and running. FYI - he blew a bravo upper and went back with an XR upper with the bravo lower and gimble.

Tonight I blew my stock Bravo I upper-snapped the shaft. It had only 15 hours on it. What does it cost to have a Bravo I with XR gears/shaft installed??
Thanks Mercury "The racing never stops" neither does the spending.

Fast Shafts,
What shaft did you break? The clutch shaft (Merc calls it an upper vertical shaft)? Or did you snap the input shaft?
If you took out the clutch shaft the case needs to be check for problems. I have installed XR gears in the B1 case, but I recommend you have a steel tower installed and good top cap. I also install steel towers in B1 uppers. What year is your drive? What does the serial number start with.. OW? or OM? or OL?
What kind of power are you running? What size of boat, etc? I dont recommend going to XR gears unless you are knocking the teeth off the X gears..

Fenderjack,
If your B1 is relatively new, then bolting the XR to your transom is easy. You need to install the Gimble bearing kit, if your present gimble bearing doesnt have the red dot.. Other wise it should bolt right up.
If the B1 is very old then there are some issues..

John,
Basically the XR has straight cut, net forged gears, are stronger but wear out, and the B1 has hellical cut gears and are weaker, but last longer.
Excursion, you are correct and the trim limiters come in the kit.... and Nice avatar!!
