If I sell all my stuff which is in good cond, Borg warner trannys, speedy 2's with latham external steering, and look for a complete used Bravo setup. I will do all of the glass work and rigging. What are your estimates????

Big project..I have done it. The Konrads will likely be low cost...for sure low hassel. If Bravos, be prepared for:
- Change engine position and all related hoses, etc
- New shift brackets, cables, etc
- Many/all new steering components
- New/reworked tail pipes or reposition exhaust tips on transom
- New X dimenision and new props
- New CG so you will likely now need new bottom/strake work
You are also going to need a lot of knowledge and to be prepared for ongoing trial and error to get the boat to handle right...BIG PROJECT
Estimate? $25-40K + labor...it may exceed the value of the boat.

Konrad is several inches shorter.

If you can do the work, you could probably walk away with a bit of change to the positive. The II's are getting rarer and more expensive all the time. At the same time, you'll need XR's at a minimum to handle the power. Plus, moving that much weight almost a foot rearward might bring on the porpoising.... ugly. (Go look in the AO forum at the handling issues they have with Bravos)

For what you sink into XR's and new tails, you could probably get away with the Konrads for about the same coin. And all you'll have to do is lower the engines.

As a follow-up, where are your prop shafts today in relation to the bottom of the boat?

Konrad has a direct bolt on package for the Speedy II. No modifications at all. Just bolt and go.

I'll try my best to clear things up. The standard length Konrad 540 is 2.6" shorter than the SSM II.
When converting from the SSM II, we fit the drive with a 2" spacer. This has worked well as most of the SSM II's were installed rather deep. With the prop selection available today, most installations benefit greatly from the .6" increase in prop shaft height.

Kurt is absolutely right on X dimension. When the Chris was designes, the state-of-the-art in propellers was the one-size-fits-all cleaver. You got to pick pitch and diameter. Nowadays, your choices are endless. 3,4, 5 blade and tons of variations. Buy a set and most dealers will swap with you until you're dialled in.

Wasn't aware you could space to 2" though. Sweet.

If you decide on the Konrads and you can currently get on plane with Mirage props, 2"-3" shorter (higher X) will likely work with Bravo 1 props. You shouldn't need any spacers.

Konrad also offers extension boxes and driveline componentry. That would solve some X problems as well as give you some MPH. especially if it's a race hull with a very high X.
