MISTAKES COST TEAMS POWERBOAT P1 WIN

Missing a turn buoy cost the Cigarette Fantastic 1, the GFN Gibellato, the Kiton Outerlimits and the #57 Centurian Yachts, first, second, third and fourth place in the Sunday Evolution race of the Powerboat P1 Grand Prix of the Sea in Vigo, Spain. The #10 Cigarette took first place in lap 8 when the leading Fountain World Wide/1stforboats.com boat lost power in one engine. The #88 Kiton boat had been in second, first and third place throughout the race, followed by the Centurian Yachts Outerlimits, which had worked its way from last to fourth place. Then, in the 11th lap of the 12-lap Endurance race, all of those boats followed the erring Cigarette and missed the buoy at the southwest corner of the 6.42 nautical mile race course.

As a result of the penalties imposed, the #53 Pignolo 53 boat took first place, followed by #77 Lucas Oil in second and the #69 Honeyparty.com Skater, that had taken first place in Saturday’s Sprint race. In that race, Fountain Worldwide/1stforboats.com took second and Centurian Yachts took third.

it seems strange that four team miss a buoy tough

I think a better organization should be made in the future to advise teams of missing buoy to effect the penalty immediatly and then after that,
if it is not done a time penalty to be imposed

It seems that the start boat had been in the same place the whole race until the lap everyone went wrong when it repositioned to the other side of a bouy - I have to say that is a schoolboy error using a moveable object to navigate by!

By the way I spoke to someone that was on the boat - that's how I know!

Cigarette will protest for the 4 minute penalty for every buoy which is too much as they say
if they get it there way this will change the results in Vigo
and we might also be for a surprise in the championship

I think GFN GIbellato has also 80 points pending in jury, so the championship is still on hold in the UIM office

How? It is the drivers responsibility to negotiate the course. Hopefully he gets it right the following lap.

I have raced and witnessed whole fleets missing the first turn which was hidden in the surf. Oh well. You only get one chance to get it right.

If you miss a turn the race control has no obligation to help you. Only keep you and spectators out of harms way.

I think penalties should be given this way:
time for correcting a missed buoy x 3
for e.g. if it takes an average of 30 seconds to correct a miss buoy marker, I think 1 mins 30 seconds should be given to the teams who miss it

then this is just my opinion and I could be totally wrong here
