Default transom assembly welding??

Help a friend install a new gimbal ring and pin on a bravo drive,we did it the J-R marine way,well he does not like the way it looks with the stainless plate now,can I weld a new piece in the hole and call it a day??or will I melt the seal or houshing gasket???

You will probably destroy the swivel shaft seal du to the heat from welding. What we usually do at the shop is put a Mercruiser sticker on the stainless plate. I am not sure about the kit you used but the plates from Teague are exactly the same dimension as the original decal so other then the screw heads it is pretty much hidden. We paint the screw heads black and it comes out pretty clean that way. The other thing you could do is just get the plate powder coated gloss black and that looks decent as well.

Thats a great idea!!
do you use the rubber seal that comes with the kit,or do you
use 5200 sealer ????

The teague kit does not come with a seal of any kind and we have always used life seal, a silicone sealer designed to be used in below the water line applications.
