Default Your opinions of the 22ZX please!

Just wanting to hear your opinions of the 22ZX. Hows it handle chop, fuel effecient, things you would change or add etc.......anything and everythings commented on please.

Im debating between this or a 24 Fountain which are getting harder to come by these days and a few other boats too.

My friend Frank (Shanghied Again) had one with a blower on it running in the 80's. The boat ran extremely well for its size. I am sure he will post here to talk about it.

have a 98 22zx with 7.4 mpi. its a good little boat does about 64mph. has a 50 gal tank and im guessing gets 2.5 mpg. takes a chop fairly well for 22ft. i dont care for the sit down seats and no cleats on side for bumpers. if i did it again i would probably start with the 26zx or 28zx. try the donzi register web site to find out more!

I think the boat lacks freeboard for bolsters...mine was a 97' w' a 454 mag-carb...w/ new Stainless Marine exhaust system I moved up from a 23" Mirage to a 25" Mirage, Bravo 1, 1.5 ratio I got 69mph at 5200....tapping the rev limit. Nice boat in 1-2's, fast & nimble. Mine held it's value well...Good Luck!

I've got a '00 22ZX with 7.4MPI. I agree the boat is too shalow for stand up bolsters. My boat has the step hull, the others dont I believe they didnt start that until 99 or 00. My top speed is about the same 64 or 65. I've done some rough math and think I'm getting about 3 to 3.5 MPG, I could be wrong but I cant complain. I love it in rough stuff, rides nicer and handles better. I use the cabin but most people say its too small for anything but storage.

Frank put a set of bolsters seats in his. I don't believe they were stand up style but much better than the stock ones.
