Default upholstery protection in storage

What do you guys do to prevent mildew on the upholstery during storage? the long winters up here keep things damp and air flow through the cover isn't always possable.

I have heard of people coating the seats with Pam cooking spray, covering them in simple grean and leaving them. Whats the trick?

I would not do any of the above. Keeping it dry is key. If it get wet & freezes, then it cracks. The canvas covers leak, put some thompsons water seal on them. I would get the biggest trash bag I could find, put the cover in it, & dump 5 gallons of thompsons on it. Hang it stretched out to dry. Did not leak. sunds dumb but it works with a canvas cover. Make sure you tilt the boat off so it drains. If the cover holds water, its going to leak. Best bet, put in a heated garage

Simple Green will stain. I found this after I left a bottle on a seat and it tipped over and dripped.

I agree, keep it dry. You put a small fan in there as well that you could plug in as needed. The dampness occurs when the temps change a lot.

Opened bags of charcoal will wick the moisture.

I use moisture absorbing pellets from any boat supply store. That combined with a little heater/fan made to leave on in the cabin all winter keeps the moisture down well....that and the boat is kept in a "portable garage" so I can access it all winter!!!

A 12 volt battery and small inverter will power a little fan for long long time. You really only need it on days when the temps are varying a lot(25+*) and are changing between below freezing and above freezing temps. The big temp changes create condensation and moisture.

The charcoal works, just don't buy the match light type!
I coat the vinyl with lots of 3m vinyl conditioner when I put it up for the season and keep charcoal in the cabin and cockpit.
