Hello-

I am in the process of installing a windshield on my 30' Motion. I have seen many boats that have a flat black surface under the windshield, I believe it is to cut down on the glare. What is the best product for this job? Attached are a couple pictures.....

Imron has a flattener available for it. It's so tough that the flatter finish doesn't mark up like most do. Auto body supply shops have a spray can product that works well- it's made for exterior trim pieces- like found on many Chevy trucks

The easy way is to put carpet up there. Easy to remove, clean, and you can change the color

Another method is to use simple non-skid. easy to clean but the glare is only reduced by the amount of non-skid you add

The flattener like sunkin posts is also used a lot but can be a ***** to clean and keep looking consistent. It generally looks the best (when cleaned properly)


The glare also depends on each boat... might want to try it before doing anything to see if it is a problem in your situation.

use vinyl graphic film, very inexpensive, available at any paint or avery dennison distributor, check a sign shop, they probably have scrap pieces big enough.

The vinyl film is opaque and might cause a problem with visibility. Tint that sucker.

Lay a beautifull woman up there and lick her like a lolly pop.

Here are a few pictures of my Motion with the windshield in place but not bolted down. The widnshield is all ready tinted but the fiberglass below the windshield is bright glossy white and you can see the reflextion in the windshield.

Is it better to apply a flat paint, thin flim or vinyl to match the sides?

Vinyl is easily replaceable.

Vinyl stays on pretty well but will mar.

Spray-can stuff is cheap and easy and quick, but will mar.

Flattened Imron is expensive, difficult to apply but tough. I painted a frame with it a couple years ago and throug a bunch of hard use, it looks like new. The smooth/texture doesn't "polish" with rubbing like most semi-hard paints.

I suppose it all depends on how much wear, how important appearance is and how much you want to put into it, effort and expense-wise.
