Default Filling in holes in fiberglass

Our engine hatch lift pulled out of the fiberglass at the end of last season. I need to fill in the holes and then redrill the holes. I was wondering what to use to fill in the holes. I was thinking that Get Rot would work the best. Any other ideas? Thanks.

If the screws pulled out through fiberglass, then any kind a filler you try won't work. I would suggest fixing the holes by reglassing and then if you can thru bolt the hatch on the underside using a big flat washer and nyloc nuts, would be the best idea.

West system epoxy with some filler added. Strongest stuff I have ever used.

To be honest with you, I don't think it needs to be though-bolted. I don't think it will look very good and I have never seen it done on any boats. I think if I get a strong filler, that would work the best. Any other ideas? Thanks

Marinetex works well, can be drilled and tapped.

I would recommend trying Marinetex also. It's easy to work with and quite strong...

I'd go with formula31 and the West system. Tough stuff.

If the surface is not blind you may want to consider a slightly larger anchoring device (bolt, washer and nut) since there is
considerable lateral stress in the application. This would also eliminate the filler problem and any issue with how it looks.

Tnx, Karl

Karl, if I understand you correctly, you mean just use bigger screws instead of plugging the hole first. We have don't this once already and what happens is it just strips out the hole even more. I think if I fill the current holes in, it will last much longer. Hopefully anyway. Thanks for all the ideas.

I would have to agree with kaama82, marine tex is nice but a temp. fix, it will pull sooner or later, just my 2 cents
